CENTRAL

Ohio Craft Brewers Association staff was hard at work this week editing the 2022 edition of Ohio On Tap magazine and hosting our annual member meeting. As a result, our blog content has been a little light. We’ll attempt to make up for it with an old-fashioned seven region roundup. Enjoy!

Derive Brewing is hosting their second annual Saison & Sour Fest this Saturday, June 11 at their Clintonville taproom. A dozen Ohio breweries have contributed some interesting sour and funky brews to the event, and Sixth City Distribution is delivering a handful of sours from across the country and around the world. Tickets available online at derivebeer.square.site

GREATER CLEVELAND

Great Lakes Brewing Company offers a wide variety of educational courses to the public as part of their Hop College program. On Wednesday, June 15, they’ll host an exceptionally fun one, delving into the sensory experience of craft beer. Those who enroll in this class will spend an evening deep diving into beer ingredients, pairing ingredients with food, and building up a tasting vocabulary to help describe and understand the myriad flavors and aromas encountered across the multitude of craft beer styles. Students will also get a chance to taste some common off-flavors in beer, a valuable palate training exercise for anyone who’s serious about their craft brews. Limited tickets are available, get yours at greatlakesbrewing.com/tours-and-classes

Lima is one of the biggest Ohio cities to not have a craft brewery within its borders. That is, until this weekend when Outskirts Brew Co. & Dive opens its doors to the public for the first time. The owners of the Vino Bellissimo wine shop made the decision a couple years ago to start a craft brewery; in late 2021, they shut down to begin the buildout in their facility on the outskirts of Lima (hence the name.) Outskirts will open at 4 p.m. on Friday, June 10 with a lineup of house-brewed beers, as well as a limited selection of other libations. Pop in for a visit and get your Ohio On Tap passport stamp! Give them a follow to keep up with all that’s in store for Ohio’s newest brewery: instagram.com/outskirtsbrewco

Brink Brewing is celebrating the release of their 500th batch of beer this weekend at their College Hill taproom. Several of those batches have earned the brewery accolades at high-level beer competitions, most recently a gold medal at the 2021 Great American Beer Festival for Father G’s Bees honey brown ale. That particular beer also happened to be the brewery’s 500th batch, which they will tap this Saturday, June 11 at noon. Brink will also tap some very limited variants of their popular beers throughout the day. See the full list of those one-off beers at facebook.com/brinkbrewing
