Community Building Through Collaboration
Breweries collaborate with with other breweries for a number of reasons: to experiment with new processes or ingredients, to reach a new market, to foster and strengthen relationships with each other, or all of the above.
For their upcoming collaboration, Esoteric Brewing and Rhinegeist are teaming up to help aspiring Cincinnati entrepreneurs from historically marginalized communities find the resources to make their business dreams a reality.
Kicking Off a Conversation
Harmony, a collaboratively-brewed red rye IPA, will be released on Feb. 22 at Esoteric’s taproom in Walnut Hills and Rhinegeist’s taproom in Over-the-Rhine. One dollar from each pint sold will be donated to MORTAR, a Cincinnati-based nonprofit that provides resources to entrepreneurs building small businesses in their communities.
“We built Esoteric believing the brewery could transform the neighborhood while being diverse and inclusive of those around us,” says brewery co-founder and MORTAR program alum Brian Jackson. “With <1% of Black representation in the brewing industry, we feel it’s important to break glass ceilings for everyone who’s underrepresented. We hope Harmony will kick off conversations about social change through inclusivity and collaboration.”
The two breweries will each host a panel discussion on the topic of collaboration in the brewing industry and the social impact collaboration has in communities. Esoteric will host the first of these discussions on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 5:30 p.m. Rhinegeist will host the second installment on Thursday, March 3 at 5:30 p.m. Find out more at facebook.com/esotericbeer
