Dark (Beer) Days

It’s a Cincinnati brewery tradition to release a big imperial stout on Black Friday, but why should all the dark beer fun be confined to just a single day? A trio of Cincy-area breweries are tapping their own dark beers this Friday, Dec. 2, spanning a few styles outside of the stout category.

  • West Side Brewing will release this year’s version of Krampus Coal, a rich, smooth Baltic porter infused with whole vanilla beans. A portion of all Krampus Coal can and draft sales will be donated to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Cincinnati. Enjoy this strong holiday offering responsibly, or risk the admonishment of the Krampus.
  • Esoteric Brewing will release their alternative to the traditional Christmas ale to celebrate an alternative to the traditional Christmas holiday. Restivus – named for the fictional holiday popularized by Seinfeld – is a Belgian-style winter ale brewed with nutmeg and ginger, available on draft and in cans.
  • Third Eye Brewing will tap Dunkel Seite, a delicious chocolate dunkel lager clocking in at a sessionable 5.7% ABV. Get a taste of the “dark side” at the Third Eye taproom in Sharonville.
