Graphic Designer

Great Lakes Brewing Company’s Design Team is dedicated to producing thoughtfully-crafted, intentional work designed to enhance our award-winning brewery’s exceptionally crafted beers. By developing creative that defines the look and feel of our brands, we touch everything from packaging, sales materials, advertising, and social media to menus and merchandise.

  • Create, pitch, and execute a wide variety of creative, unique, and commercial design projects while adhering to the Company’s brand standards, including advertisements, apparel, promotional materials, point-of-sale, digital/social media assets, video, motion graphics, displays, and packaging
  • Address and complete internal graphic design help tickets in a timely and efficient manner
  • Solve challenging design problems and present multiple concepts through digital/physical sketches, visual references, competitive and trend reviews, and storyboards
  • Photograph and photo-edit lifestyle images, product photos, and events around the company
  • Execute photography from conception to completion, including construction of environment, lighting, prop collection and final photo editing using Photoshop techniques, in relation to retouching, color correction and compositing
  • Collaborate with the Creative Manager and Multimedia Specialist to organize and develop content for social media including design, photography, video across multiple social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) that appeals to wide audiences
  • Proof own work, produce proof-ready copies for review, and revise designs according to feedback
  • Problem solve and troubleshoot design project needs through discovery, collaboration, and relationship-building across departments
  • Seek, interpret, and implement feedback into creative and commercial solutions
  • Seek, research, and implement emerging design trends and technologies
  • Manage and organize priorities, workflow, and deadlines through regular and ongoing communication with Creative Manager, while delivering finished work on-brand, error-free, and on-time
  • Prepare print-ready files necessary for all steps of the production process
  • Produce and process studio quality photography, including lifestyle, product, and on-location assets
  • Maintain various media libraries, servers, and archives for all print, digital, photo, and video files
  • Other duties and projects as assigned


  • Education
    • Bachelors degree in graphic design, marketing, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Work Experience
    • Two (2) years of professional print and digital design experience preferred
  • Required Qualifications
    • Thorough knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects) and Mac OS
    • Diligent multi-tasker and problem solver with a passion for creativity
    • Have a keen eye for detail, copy review, and design hierarchy along with a healthy mix of creative and technical know-how
    • Advanced knowledge of graphic design fundamentals including typography, color, and layout
    • Strong understanding of information hierarchy, proportion/composition, and type/grid relationships
    • Excellent interpersonal skills: team player, self-motivated, comfortable working both independently and collaboratively, and able to thrive in a rapidly changing environment
    • Thorough understanding of project requirements and concepts
    • Ability to design for both print, web, and social media layouts
    • Excellent time management
    • Must have a portfolio of photo work that can be reviewed by hiring manager
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Passion for the craft beer industry
    • Experience with print and packaging standards
    • Experience with PowerPoint
    • Videography and social media experience a plus
    • Knowledge of various printing substrate requirements a plus
    • Budget-conscious understanding of material costs and deadlines
