WHO ARE WE?
When MadTree sprouted in 2013, we were driven to craft great beer – but more importantly – to build something bigger than ourselves. WHY MADTREE? WHY NOW?
First, let’s state the obvious – we make great products, and it keeps getting better. We operate one of the most successful taprooms in the region, we just opened our first restaurant, and are one of the largest beer producers in the state of Ohio. COVID-19 didn’t slow us down and we’ve continued to push our growth strategy through the uncertainty.

We continue to invest in and build a team of talented folks who are taking this company to the next level. 2022 is going to be one hell of a year for MadTree – with Alcove, our new restaurant in the heart of OTR, and we began distribution of ready-to-drink cocktails. POSITION:  Controller
LOCATION: Cincinnati, OH (Oakley)
REPORTS TO: Co-founder

POSITION SUMMARY: Works as a member of the Math Department to lead all accounting and finance functions across hospitality, process manufacturing, and wholesale distribution. They will be an avid MadTree ambassador who lives the behaviors – Connect, Grow, and Give a F*ck.

KEY PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES IN ORDER OF PRIORITY AND PROJECTED TIME ALLOCATION: 
50% – Develop and lead all finance-related processes, including strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, cost management, accounting, financial reporting, tax planning, and compliance, regulatory compliance, communications, and technology.
20% – Collaborate with leadership to deliver relevant financial information to make actionable recommendations, improve operations, and achieve strategic objectives.
10% – Clearly and regularly communicating with management, staff, and key internal and external stakeholders to ensure efficient information flow and positive relationships.
Note: Twenty percent of time is reserved for ancillary responsibilities and activities unrelated to the key performance objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
Develop and implement professional management systems, tools, and processes required to scale the business with excellence in quality, customer service, and financial performance.
Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress, trends, and changes.
Performance manage and develop the Math team; conduct training needs analysis and provide appropriate staff training.
Perform monthly reconciliations, post adjusting journal entries, and provide useful variance analysis as appropriate.
Create profit center P/Ls that allow business line managers to make better, faster decisions about the health of their businesses.
Oversee effective functioning of the inventory team, ensuring accurate inventory counts.
Ensure timely billing and collection of customer receivables and effective working capital management.
Deliver timely and accurate month-end closings, accruals, account and bank reconciliations, and financial reporting, including the issuance of GAAP-basis financial statements.
Ensure consistent application of correct accounting and tax policies, and the timely and accurate completion of all required federal, state and local tax and compliance-related reporting.
Manage Investor Relations with respect to financial reporting.
Manage and process payroll, maintain all records, and reconcile deductions.
Manage company’s information services, including inventory management and POS systems, ensuring proper use and effectiveness.
Provide timely response to requests for information/analyses from leadership.
Identify and develop, in collaboration with leadership, new opportunities to expand revenue and profit.
Lead the company’s relationships with third-party service providers, including insurance and bonding, banking, accounting, tax, and leasing.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Must be at least 21 years of age or older.
BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or another business-related field.
5+ years in a managerial accounting position in the restaurant and/or hospitality industry. Experience within process manufacturing a plus.
Minimum of one year experience with an ERP solution.

IMPORTANT SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of GAAP principles and standards.
Working understanding of taxes, including federal and state income, sales, use, and excise.
Understanding of restaurant accounting is a plus, and how to fully use the accounting and operations modules of Restaurant365 software.
Strong project and time management, attention to detail, exceptional analytical, decision making, and problem-solving skills.
Strong Internal Control background.
Great verbal and written communication skills.
Self-driven; able to work with a limited amount of direction and make critical decisions independently.
Must be able to educate, persuade and inspire others, and work both independently and within a team to accomplish goals.
Must demonstrate the utmost in integrity, in all respects.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb.
Ability to frequently talk, hear, and smell.
Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Ability to reach with hands and arms. Use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
