The coronavirus pandemic has brought so much uncertainty to hospitality-based industries, as declines in customer traffic have caused large losses of revenue. Now, with a vaccine being rolled out and warmer seasons coming up, it has to be taken as an encouraging sign that several established breweries are moving forward with plans for new locations. BrewDog, Earnest Brew Works, Homestead Beer Company, Little Fish Brewing, North High Brewing and Yellow Springs Brewery have all announced new Ohio taprooms coming in 2021, and now Seventh Son Brewing can add its name to the list. The Columbus brewery’s new concept, dubbed The Getaway Brewing Company, is slated for an opening date in Dublin this spring. Getaway Brewing is built around a travel theme, planning to offer international beer styles and a vacation vibe. Read Dan Eaton’s coverage for Columbus Business First at bizjournals.com

Maybe you’re spending your Valentine’s Day with that special someone in your life. Maybe you’re embracing a “Me Day” instead of V-Day. Either way, The Brew Kettle has a special treat for you to enjoy: Vanilla Frambozen makes its annual return to the taps in advance of Valentine’s Day. Brewed just once a year, this rich raspberry ale with a hint of vanilla evokes the feeling of sinking a fork into a creamy, luscious raspberry cheesecake. Pair your pour with The Brew Kettle’s Ogrefest food menu, running through Sunday, Feb. 14, or grab a growler to enjoy at home. You’re going to love this Valentine’s Day delicacy. Quenched & Tempered Brewing Company has a lot of irons in the fire at the moment. They recently completed an expansion of their production brewery in Grand Rapids, upgrading from a nanobrewery setup to a full 10-barrel brewhouse to keep up with growing demand for their beers. At the same time, they’ve been continuing work on a taproom in downtown Toledo and are currently looking to hire a taproom manager for their anticipated spring opening. Quenched & Tempered has started to expand their self-distribution reach within northwest Ohio and as far south as Columbus, and are now offering direct shipping to customers across Ohio. Look for fresh cans of John’s Beere rye honey ale, Raspberry Zinger cream ale and Zach’s Brown ale on retail shelves starting this week, or place an order for pickup, local delivery or shipping at quenchedandtempered.com

Cheers to nine years of beers from Buckeye Lake Brewery! As in past years, Buckeye Lake is rewarding their longtime customers with discounted growler fills on Saturday, Feb. 13. The older the bottle, the greater the savings: a 2020 Buckeye Lake growler is eligible for a $1 discount, 2019 gets you $2 off, 2018 is $3 off, and so on all the way back to the original 2012 growler, which will net the holder a $9 discount. WEST CENTRAL
As much of the state is digging out from the snowstorms that rolled through Ohio this week, I doubt many are thinking about hopping on their bikes and taking a ride. While the weather may not be ideal for making the bike trail trip between Devil Wind Brewing in Xenia and Southern Ohio Brewing in Beavercreek, the conditions are ideal for enjoying Sest Mil, the new collaboration brew between the two west central Ohio breweries. A dark Czech lager (tmavé pivo), Sest Mil translates to “six miles” in English, the distance that separates the two breweries along the Creekside Trail. Devil Wind will hold a ceremonial first tapping today at 4 p.m., with another to follow at Southern Ohio at 6 p.m. Details at facebook.com/devilwindbrewing
