Wolf's Ridge Brewing Coconut Howling Moon
CENTRAL 

After a long hiatus, Wolf’s Ridge Brewing is bringing back Coconut Howling Moon for a limited time. This tropical and boozy imperial IPA clocks in at 10% ABV and is infused with 100 pounds of freshly toasted coconut. Available on draft and in bomber bottles starting today at the taproom in downtown Columbus.

Hoof Hearted Brewing will release dueling double IPA cans on Sunday, Dec. 2 at their brewery in Marengo. A fresh batch of South of Eleven, the 10.2% ABV hazy DIPA/Slayer tribute, goes head-to-head with the Van Halen/Better Off Dead-inspired Everybody Wants Some!! with Australian Ella hops. ‘Tis the season for self-assessment: have you been naughty or nice this year? Either way, Combustion Brewery has a beer for you. Naughty is a 7.5% ABV American strong ale with bold hops and malt character. Nice is a traditional spiced Christmas ale made with cinnamon and vanilla. Get them both on draft at Combustion’s Pickerington taproom this holiday season.

GREATER CLEVELAND 

Shareef don’t like it, but you will… Terrestrial Brewing is hosting Rock The Cask-Bar on Saturday, Dec. 1 and will feature a dozen unique cask-conditioned ales from breweries around Cleveland. This week, The Brew Kettle tapped Orange Caesar, a 6.5% ABV, 35 IBU milkshake IPA. Loaded with citrusy hops, real blood orange juice and natural blood orange flavor, this one-off IPA is made with lactose sugar and a touch of vanilla to create a creamy citrus sensation. Try a couple of new Christmas ales within a couple blocks of each other in Willoughby this weekend. Willoughby Brewing’s Wenceslas is brewed with a full complement of winter spices: cinnamon, ginger, vanilla, clove, juniper, nutmeg and a touch of orange zest. Meanwhile, down the street at Brim Kitchen & Brewery, they’ve got Ms. Kringle, their own seasonally-spiced holiday ale on tap. Compare them for yourself!

Cheers to a year of beer from Paradigm Shift Brewing! One of two Ohio breweries to win a 2018 Great American Beer Festival medal in their first year (a bronze for Neighbor Girl Belgian Tripel), they’ll celebrate their anniversary on Saturday, Dec. 1 in Massillon. Birdfish Brewing was one of 50 Ohio breweries – and over 1,200 worldwide – to brew Resilience Butte County Proud IPA, Sierra Nevada’s fundraising project to benefit victims of the devastating Camp Fire in northern California. Birdfish also teamed up with the Columbiana Fire Department to brew Elderberry Black Ale and donated a portion of the sales to the Camp Fire Relief Fund.

R.Shea Brewing has a handful of new beers and some returning favorites on tap this week. Stop into the brewpub in Akron’s Merriman Valley to try Rubber City Red, Chocolate Coffee Stout, N.E.O. Father’s Day is nice, but Dad Day is better. Rhinegeist will celebrate their 4th annual Dad Day on Saturday, Dec. 1 to commemorate the return of Dad hoppy holiday ale, a red ale that balances crisp hops with a defined roasted malt character. FigLeaf Brewing Company is in a festive mood this year with the release of Sleigh Tipper, their 14.6% ABV strong ale. Full flavored and rich, Sleigh Tipper leads with a sweet caramel presence, giving way to a toasty roasted malt backbone complemented by mild stone fruit esters and warmth of alcohol. This satisfyingly intense, potent, bittersweet strong ale is available in cans at Figleaf’s taproom in Middletown for a limited time.

Nine Giant’s 200th batch is not for the daft. Harder Better Faster Stronger, an 8.7% ABV Imperial Saison, features Herkules and Wakatu hops to add soft, juicy fruit and tropical fruit notes. When it comes to making great brews, Nine Giant’s work is never over. Available on draft now at their brewpub in Cincinnati’s Pleasant Ridge neighborhood.

Yellow Springs Brewery - Barrel-Aged Maxxdout Bottle Release
WEST CENTRAL

Today, Yellow Springs Brewery will release bottles of Bourbon Barrel Aged Maxxdout Stout. This 11.2% ABV stout started with the 2016 recipe for Maxxdout, winner of last year’s King of Ohio stout competition. The subsequent batch was aged in Stillwrights Distillery bourbon barrels for seven months. The result: a smooth chocolate, dark fruit and molasses flavor buoyed by the warmth and fragrance of the bourbon barrel. Release details at facebook.com/yellowspringsbrewery

Star City Brewing Company will tap their holiday seasonal, Ice Burg Xmas Ale, on Saturday, Dec. 1. This annual favorite is a lightly hopped amber ale with notes of grapefruit, cinnamon and fresh ginger. The tapping event is also the kickoff of the Miamisburg brewery’s annual Toys for Tots drive: Star City is collecting cash donations and new, unwrapped toys for donation.
