Paradigm Shift Brewing in Massillon has released a new beer this week. Trabajador (Spanish for “employee”) is a German-style Hefeweizen with hints of banana and clove flavors. If you’re wondering why a German-style beer has a Spanish name, well, that makes two of us… but I’m sure a couple of these light, refreshing beers will help us both forget the question.

NORTHWEST

Findlay Brewing Company is getting ready to open their doors to the public on Thursday, June 28. After their previous building suffered considerable water damage, the brewery relocated into a larger, dedicated space and increased the size of their brewhouse from 30 gallons to 15 barrels (plus a 3 barrel pilot system). The gorgeous new taproom will feature two dozen taps and creative pub fare from the in-house kitchen. Make plans to visit and get your Ohio On Tap passport stamp! Sylvania’s Upside Brewing has a monster of a new beer on tap this week. Strawberry Lush is a 10.2% ABV Imperial IPA brewed with lactose and 50 pounds of fresh strawberries. This beer is not lacking in the hops department either, clocking in at a massive 98 IBU. Pair it with the house-made gyro from J&G Pizza Palace (where Upside calls home), or get a crowler or two to go.

SOUTHEAST

Buckeye Lake Brewery has your go-to summer brew: the new Splash Session IPA, released this week. The new brew is an easy drinking 4.5% ABV and 45 IBU, perfect for sipping in the sunshine (or enjoying in the taproom in case of rain). The brewery will tap a cask of grapefruit infused Splash at 6 p.m. at their taproom in Buckeye Lake. Details at facebook.com/buckeyelakebrewery

Head out to Zanesville and get your hands on the new Mango Wheat from Weasel Boy Brewing. Starting with the taproom favorite White Weasel Wheat, then adding a touch of mango to round out the brew with tropical fruit sweetness and body makes for a refreshing summer drink to enjoy at the brewery on the banks of the Muskingum River.

SOUTHWEST

Next Tuesday, June 26, Wiedemann Brewery and Bohemian Beer Garden will open in the village of St. Bernard, just north of Cincinnati’s Avondale neighborhood. Brewers Steve Shaw and Austin Smith are offering traditional beers like Wiedemann Special Lager – the flagship Bohemian pilsner – and more modern flavors like the Hazelnut Coffee Milk Stout. Fretboard Brewing Company released the third in their series of India Session Pilsners this week. Mellowship combines an old‐world lager with new-world dry hopped characteristics. The beer is light, unfiltered and slightly hazy to preserve its bouquet of citrusy aromatics and flavor. Try one at Fretboard’s Blue Ash brewery taproom. More details at fretboardbrewing.com

MadTree Brewing re-released a favorite from their Trunk Series this week. Joon is a kölsch aged in Watershed Bourbon Barrel Gin barrels with juniper berries and ginger.
