Not to be outdone on the Christmas in July front, Hansa Brewery will hold a limited bottle release of their winter seasonal, Merry Xmas Ya Filthy Animal. Aged in Cleveland Whiskey barrels and fermented with maple syrup and honey, it clocks in at a holly jolly 15% ABV. Hansa mug club members get first dibs today, any remaining bottles go on sale at 7 p.m. tonight. Details at facebook.com/hansabrewery

NORTHEAST
Why stop at Christmas in July? Hoppin’ Frog Brewery has decided to skip ahead to next year with a re-release of their 13.6% ABV barleywine, New Year’s Eve 2018. Originally released back in January, the beer was intended to be aged in the bottle until, you guessed it, December 31, 2018. Pick up a bottle or two from the Akron brewery now to add to your cellar, or crack one open and party like it’s 2019. Rick Armon has all the details at ohio.com
McArthur’s Brew House isn’t going to get left out of the Christmas in July fun either. The Cuyahoga Falls brewery held back some of their Christmas ale and aged it for six months in a bourbon barrel. That beer will be tapped today at 5:30 p.m.; it’ll go fast, so make your plans now or risk getting a lump of coal for missing out.
If you haven’t tried any of the Whirlpool Party hazy IPAs from R.Shea Brewing, this newest version is worth checking out. Each batch features a different combination of hops: the newly tapped brew was made with Zythos, Citra and Columbus hops, lending strong pineapple and orange aromas with a flavor profile of citrus and tropical fruit with a twist of pine. On tap now at the brewery in Akron.
NORTHWEST
Drop Tine Winery & Tap House will hold their grand opening celebration this weekend. Located in Montpelier, the newest member of the Ohio Craft Brewers Association is the northwestiest of northwest Ohio breweries, just 10 miles from both the Indiana and Michigan borders. Stop in this weekend for the Montpelier Bean Days Balloon Festival and get your Ohio On Tap passport stamp!
Just a few months after opening their new brewery and taproom in Grand Rapids, Wild Side Brewing Company is already planning an expansion. The sour and wild ale-focused brewery is looking to grow their barrel aging program with a new facility just down the street from the current location. Stop in for a new hazy lemon Berliner Weisse and ask them all about it!
SOUTHEAST
Today at 11 a.m., Jackie O’s Brewery will release its biggest and most extravagant barleywine to date, Iron Furnace. Inspired by southeast Ohio’s historic iron forges from the late 19th century, Iron Furnace was brewed with an absurd amount of local maple syrup, brown sugar before being aged in Buffalo Trace barrels for a year. Available at the brewery taproom only, details at facebook.com/jackieosbrewery
Ohio Brew Week draws to a close this weekend with two big events. Tonight, Brew BQ will take over the Athens Train Depot for a night of beers, food and live music. Then on Saturday, July 21, breweries will take over Court Street in downtown Athens for Last Call, a day-long craft beer festival. The Ohio Craft Brewers Association will be on hand at both events with Drink Beer Made Here merchandise for sale. Stop by our tent and say “hi!”

Rivertown Brewery & Barrel House has a couple of new cans hitting distribution in late July. Kontrola is Rivertown’s new Czech-style pilsner brewed with Prostějov malt and Czech Saaz hops. Blueberry Lager is a natural blueberry-infused version of the brewery’s flagship 3984 Lager. Both sound like worthy cooler staples as we enter the dog days of summer. Look for them on store shelves soon.
