The day before BrewDog Franklinton’s soft opening, their construction dumpster caught fire. They chose to immortalize the incendiary incident by turning it into a beer. Franklinton Dumpster Fire is a smoky Gose with tons of fire red raspberries. On Wednesday, July 11, BrewDog Franklinton will hold a release party with limited edition Teku glasses and art prints by Craig Fisher for the first 125 folks to buy a ticket. Elevator Brewing Company’s annual Ride The Elevator charity bike ride during Columbus Craft Beer Week was postponed due to severe weather. The rescheduled event will happen on Tuesday, July 10; riders will meet at Goodale Park at 5:30 p.m. and finish at Elevator’s 13th Floor Taproom after a leisurely 4-mile ride. It’s Christmas in July all month long at Zaftig Brewing Co. in Worthington. In the giving spirit of the season, Zaftig is raising funds for Habitat for Humanity’s “The House That Beer Built” initiative. GREATER CLEVELAND 

Ohio’s newest beer trail is the Cleveland Brewery Passport, a project promoted by Destination Cleveland. The passport booklet includes 30 breweries, mostly within the Cleveland city limits but including locations spanning from Avon in the west to Willoughby in the east. Prizes include a bottle opener for visiting eight breweries and a baseball cap for completing the passport. Pick up a booklet at any participating brewery and remember that you can work on the Cleveland Brewery Passport and the Ohio On Tap app simultaneously to earn more prizes!

Cheers to a year of beer from Saucy Brew Works! NORTHEAST

Lockport Brewery announced plans to move into the Georgio’s Restaurant space, about a quarter-mile west of their current location in Bolivar. The new space will be built out with a larger, more capable brewhouse to meet growing demand. Plans call for the taproom to move to the new location after brewery construction is completed. Maumee Bay Brewing Co., along with the Ohio Environmental Council, will be commemorating the water crisis in Toledo by bringing back a very special beer on August 2. Alegae Bloom is a sour double IPA made with matcha powder and kiwi. Maumee Bay will brew a limited amount of this beer (with a portion of the profits being donated to water treatment/preservation) to help bring awareness to this environmental issue. Rick Armon, keeper of the Ohio Beer Blog and author of two books about Ohio beer – the most recent of which is the excellent Fifty Must-Try Craft Beers of Ohio – will be speaking at the Wood County District Public Library in Bowling Green on Wednesday, July 11. Bad Tom Smith Brewing announced this week that they’ll be moving their Cincinnati brewery and tap room from the Linwood neighborhood to Madisonville. They’ll be taking over the historic Fifth Third bank building on the corner of Madison Road and Whetsel Avenue. This weekend, Christian Moerlein Brewing Co. is offering a sneak peek of Cat’s Eye Hazy Eye-PA. The beer pours a golden yellow with substantial haze due to the high amounts of wheat malt and oats. Tropical fruit dominates the hop aroma and flavor with subtle notes of pineapple and citrus as well. Available starting today at the Christian Moerlein taproom in Over-the-Rhine, then find it at the Cat’s Eye Saloon in Athens during Ohio Brew Week, July 13-21.

Congratulations to Roundhouse Depot Brewing Co., Ohio’s newest craft brewery! The Bellefontaine brewery will open to the public at noon on Saturday, July 7. Seven house-brewed beers will be on tap, most with railroad-themed names like Cleveland Crash of 1974, an amber ale named for the fatal wreck that took the life of train engineer and Bellefontaine native E.J.
