Today Royal Docks Brewing Company is tapping Geil, a rare beer for a good cause: one dollar from each pint of Geil sold at the Royal Docks taprooms in Canton will benefit StacheStrong, a non-profit supporting brain cancer research.

Geil – a multipurpose German slang word that is primarily used to describe something as “cool” or “awesome” – is a smoked sour wheat beer known as a Lichtenhainer, a rarely seen, highly regional style originating in eastern Germany near the Czech border. Similar to a Berliner weisse or a gose, the Lichtenhainer is low in alcohol and mild in acidic tartness. The smoked malt should come through in the nose and on the palate, but not be as overpowering as a rauchbier or as hop bittered as a Grätzer.

Listen to Royal Docks brewers Zane Charnas and Dave Sutula talk you through their version, then go enjoy a pint or two and chip in for a very worthy cause. Find out more at facebook.com/royaldocksbrewing
