Summer of Sour

There’s a heatwave coming to Ohio this week, and we think that’s the perfect weather for sipping on a crisp, thirst quenching sour beer. If you’re in the Akron area when the temperatures rise, stop by the Eighty-Three Brewery taproom and beat the heat with some of their impressive and award-winning sours.

Berried to Death returned to the Eighty-Three taps this past weekend: this fan favorite is a gose brewed with copious amounts of raspberries and blackberries, offset by a touch of pink sea salt. Neon Dragon combines watermelon purée and real dragon fruit to create a light but powerful sour ale, perfect on its own or mixed with orange juice to create a Dragon-mosa. If you’re a fan of the lighter side of sour, grab a pour of Eighty-Three’s Great American Beer Festival silver medalist, Berliner Nice! with a shot of woodruff syrup, the traditional German herbal addition to this lightly tart style.

Eighty-Three is holding a sour tasting event on Saturday, Aug. 27 – mark your calendars – where ticket holders can run the gamut of the brewery’s sour offerings, including the barrel aged Berried to Death fruited sour planned for Eighty-Three’s third anniversary.
